Vehicle & Vessel Licensing

Renew registration annually and online for the fastest service.  Tabs can be mailed or picked up in person. 

Renew by mail with DOL renewal notice but allow for 3–10 business days.  If expiration is within 10 days, renew it online or in person.

Renew in person as registered owner or immediate family member (with same last name) using a Photo ID and renewal notice OR plate number.  

Replace lost tabs using the DOL Lost Affidavit that must be notarized or submitted in person to an authorized DOL licensing agent with a valid Photo ID.  

Paper renewal reminder notices are mailed approximately 3 weeks before expiration.  Sign up for email reminders through DOL. 

Reporting a sale helps protect the seller from liability after ownership transfer.  Keep your receipt as proof of reporting and follow DOL guidelines for Vehicles.  

Boat and vessel ownership can vary from vehicles.  Details are well outlined on DOL guidelines for Boats.   

Discover Pass purchases are completed during vehicle renewal and will be mailed within 7-10 business days. For delivery issues call 1-844-271-704.  Immediate passes are available where hunting and fishing licenses are sold.

Licensing fees are mostly set by the Washington State Legislature and additional local fees may include Transportation Benefit District (TBD) or Regional Transit Authority (RTA).  Fees are determined on several factors and can be calculated online with DOL.
